Israeli president may face rape charges

Israeli president Moshe Katsav could be charged with multiple sexual assaults, including rape, the Independent reports.

The police have issued a statement recommending that Katsav should be charged, but the final decision rests with the country’s attorney general.

He could also be charged with fraud and illegal wiretapping.

It sounds serious:

A police statement said the complaints were filed by “women who worked under his (Katsav’s) authority”. It said there was evidence he committed crimes of “rape, aggravated sexual assault, indecent acts without permission and offenses under the law to prevent sexual harassment”.
