The Scotsman reports today on research published in the Journal of Medical Education which shows that women doctors seeking the top of their profession (academic research) are still facing workforce practices detrimental to their careers. Despite women now being the majority of med school entrants, only 21% of the clinical academic workforce are women across all 32 medical schools. And only 10% of medical clinical professors are women – in 2004-5 a total of 207 men became clinical professors compared to (yes wait for it) 6 women.
