Artist Nagi Noda died last Sunday, from complications from surgery, I learned from TokyoMango.
Nagi Noda was responsible for some amazingly creative and fun work, which you can see on her website, which has both a Japanese and English language version. She kept a blog in English (which I can’t link to for some reason).
A lot of Nagi Noda’s work is deeply influenced by advertising and commercialised art, which may mean she’s not for everyone. However, she was clearly a lady with a huge imagination, and incidentally was responsible for some strong pieces which took the internet by storm, such as this video where she wears a poodle costume and does an ’80s style exercise video. I remember this from years back, but it was only when I saw the TokyoMango post recently on it, that I found out the full name of the piece, “Mariko Takahashi’s Fitness Video for Being Appraised as an ‘Ex-fat Girl'”.
